Month guide

September in Seoul

Myeongdong is the most convenient first base: shopping, street food and two subway lines, with the old palaces a short ride away. Bukchon and Insadong are for the historic Seoul of hanok lanes and tea houses, quieter at night and closer to the palaces. Gangnam is modern, spacious and business-like, with excellent food and a long subway ride to the sights — best for repeat visitors or work trips.

One more opinion

Send me the trip. I’ll send back the area.

Dates, budget, who’s travelling and the one thing you don’t want to deal with. I’ll answer with a specific base, not a brochure.

A note from the editor

“I’d rather tell you which area to skip than sell you another list of ‘best hotels’.”

The guides are independent. Booking links may earn a commission; they never change the shortlist.
