The area is the decision. The hotel is the detail.
whereshouldistayin.com exists because choosing a hotel before choosing a neighbourhood is backwards. The room is where you sleep; the area is where the trip happens.
Where should I stay in…
The brief
City, who is coming, nightly budget.
The area
The areaTransit, noise, food, the walk back at night.
The hotel
The room, the rate, the specific street.
The order is the method.
Why it starts here
Most travel sites answer ‘where should I stay?’ with a list of hotels. That gets the order wrong. The hotel you can afford in a neighbourhood you don’t want is still a bad stay. We start with the trade-offs of the area: how you move, how it sounds at night, what breakfast costs, whether the streets work with a suitcase or a stroller.
The data is deliberately focused. A short list of cities, three areas each, and a short hotel shortlist per area. Fewer choices, better described, is more useful than an infinite inventory. We add cities only when we can be specific about every base in them.
“I’d rather tell you which area to skip than sell you another list of ‘best hotels’.”
Four rules we don’t break
A five-star room in the wrong part of town is still the wrong room. Every guide starts with your days, then works back to a bed.
- 01
Name the downside
Every neighbourhood has a trade-off. If a guide can’t tell you what it is, it isn’t finished.
- 02
Prices are ranges, not bait
We publish a range and a sample-rate caveat. A single ‘from $79’ with blackout dates is an advert, not advice.
- 03
No pay-to-play rankings
Affiliate links may earn a commission. They never buy a place on the shortlist, a score or a headline.

Write for a decision
Every page should leave you closer to a choice — a base, a night count, a specific street — not just inspired.
Cities change: hotels reopen, restaurants close, a train line gets faster. If something here is wrong, tell me. Corrections from people who live there are the most useful email I get.
Still torn between two areas?
Send the dates, the budget and who’s travelling. I’ll tell you which base I’d choose — and why.
