Hivernage

Palm-lined avenues, big pools and the medina a short ride away.

Hivernage is the modern hotel district just south-west of the medina: wide avenues, large resorts, casinos, nightclubs and gardens. It is the comfortable, easy choice for travellers who want a pool, a calm room and air conditioning, and who do not need to sleep inside the old city. It is less atmospheric and less walkable than the medina, and the nightlife around the clubs can be loud and expensive.

What works

  • Large hotels with pools and gardens
  • Close to the medina by taxi
  • Quiet, comfortable rooms

What doesn’t

  • Resort-like and less local
  • Not walkable to the sights
  • Nightclubs can be loud and pricey

One local move

Use Hivernage as a base for comfort and take a taxi to the medina for dinner and atmosphere. Ask your hotel for a fixed-price car; the small extra is worth avoiding the negotiation.

Getting around

Taxis and rideshares are the normal way to the medina and Guéliz. There is little to see on foot except the hotels and gardens; agree on the fare before getting in.

Safety

Comfortable and well used by tourists, with hotel security. Keep usual precautions outside the hotels at night, and do not walk back from clubs alone.

One more opinion

Send me the trip. I’ll send back the area.

Dates, budget, who’s travelling and the one thing you don’t want to deal with. I’ll answer with a specific base, not a brochure.
