January in London
Soho is the first-timer's no-brainer: theatres, food and everything walkable. Shoreditch is where design, coffee and late nights live, with faster access to the City. South Bank is the family pick: river, museums and no need for the Tube. Kensington is calm, polished and the easiest Heathrow base.
Winter
Winter is quieter outside the festive weeks, and hotel rates often soften as the season settles. Christmas lights keep the centre busy, so book those nights early. Days are short, which is a good reason to plan an indoor anchor and an early dinner.
Spring and autumn are the most requested seasons, so central hotels move early and rates tend to firm up. Summer brings long days but also school holidays and heavier crowds around the main sights. Winter is quieter outside the festive stretch, with Christmas lights in the centre and some of the calmest weeks early in the year.
