Dubai Marina & JBR

Beach promenades, skyscraper canyons and dinner with a sea view.

The Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) are Dubai's beach-and-restaurant district: a long promenade, a public beach, hundreds of cafés and tall apartment towers. It is the best base for a relaxed holiday with children, or for anyone who wants to walk to dinner. The downsides are real: traffic on the peninsula, long distances within the district and a slightly generic resort feel. It is also far from the old city and the airport.

What works

  • Walkable beach and promenade
  • Restaurants for every taste
  • Family-friendly hotels with pools

What doesn’t

  • Far from the old city and airport
  • Traffic on the peninsula
  • Resort feel can be generic

One local move

Use the tram and metro to skip the Marina traffic, and swim early in the morning. For better food value, walk inland to the Marina's side streets rather than eating on the JBR front row.

Getting around

The metro runs along the Marina at several stations, and the tram connects the marina to JBR and the beach. Taxis are easy but expensive in traffic; walking is often faster within the district.

Safety

Very safe, with strong lifeguard and beach facilities. Watch the heat and sun between May and September, and respect local dress norms on the public beach — swimwear is fine on the sand, less so in the malls.

A casual seafood spot on JBR where the food comes in buckets; messy, fun and good for groups.

  3. Pier 7

Send me the trip. I’ll send back the area.

Dates, budget, who’s travelling and the one thing you don’t want to deal with. I’ll answer with a specific base, not a brochure.
