April in Rome
First-timers are happiest in Monti: ancient sights, real restaurants and Termini within reach. Trastevere is for evenings, food and atmosphere, at the cost of noise and a longer walk home. Prati suits families and Vatican days, with quieter streets and better value than the historic core.
Spring
Spring is one of the two peak seasons, with mild days that suit long walks and outdoor ruins. Holiday weekends in the season can be especially busy, so book well ahead and expect crowds around the major sights. Weather can still be changeable, so keep an indoor plan in reserve.
Spring and autumn are the most requested seasons, and hotel rates tend to follow; book early if those weeks are the plan. Summer brings real heat and heavy crowds, so sightseeing is easier in the morning and evening. Winter is the quietest stretch, which suits museums and long lunches more than long walks.
