August in Los Angeles
Santa Monica gives you the ocean, a walkable downtown and a calmer pace, at the far west end of the city. West Hollywood is central for nightlife, restaurants and design shopping, with walkable blocks but no train. Downtown LA has the best transit, museums and a growing food scene, alongside homeless encampments and a rougher street reality that hotels cannot hide.
