West Hollywood

Sunset Strip nightlife, design shops and a walkable westside core.

West Hollywood sits between Hollywood and Beverly Hills, with the Sunset Strip's bars and music venues, the design shops around Melrose and a dense restaurant scene. It is central for the west side, walkable in its core and lively late. There is no train, so a car or rideshare is needed for most sightseeing. Rooms are expensive and the party streets are noisy; choose a side street if you want sleep.

What works

  • Restaurants and bars within walking distance
  • Central to the westside sights
  • Strong design and shopping scene

What doesn’t

  • No rail; car-dependent
  • Expensive and noisy
  • Parking is difficult

One local move

Book a hotel on a side street north or south of Sunset for quiet, then walk to the action. For food, explore the blocks around Melrose and Fairfax rather than the Strip's tourist restaurants.

Getting around

Buses along Santa Monica and La Cienega help, but a car or rideshare is the practical default. Parking garages fill on weekend nights, and street parking rules are strict.

Safety

Safe by day, with more caution needed late at night around the club strip. Watch your drink, avoid unlicensed taxis and do not leave bags visible in cars.

The shortlist

4 picks in West Hollywood

One strong pick per tier. All prices are sample ranges, not live quotes.

Luxury$450–$750

The Pendry West Hollywood

A stylish hotel on Sunset with a rooftop pool, several restaurants and a members'-club feel; the most polished stay in the area.

Mid-range$250–$400

Hotel Ziggy

A music-themed hotel on the Sunset Strip with a pool and a lively bar; fun, central and better value than the big names.

Budget$150–$260

Beverly Laurel Hotel

A simple, old-school motel-style hotel on Beverly Boulevard; basic rooms, free parking and a fair price for the location.

Unique$600–$1,200

Chateau Marmont

The legendary Hollywood hideaway on Sunset; cottage rooms, a famous patio and a strict no-photos culture. A stay here is an experience, not a bargain.

Nightly ranges are sample estimates in USD for a standard double room. They move with season, events and how early you book.

Eat & drink nearby

  1. Gracias Madre

    Mexican

A stylish plant-based Mexican restaurant with a strong cocktail list; lively, busy and best booked.

  2. Jon & Vinny's

    Italian-American

A popular Fairfax restaurant for pizza, pasta and a buzzy room; no reservations for some tables, so go early.

  3. The Ivy

    Californian

A long-standing celebrity-spotting restaurant on Robertson; expensive, decorative and more about the scene than the food.

One more opinion

Send me the trip. I’ll send back the area.

Dates, budget, who’s travelling and the one thing you don’t want to deal with. I’ll answer with a specific base, not a brochure.
