Palermo Soho & Hollywood

Boutiques, brunch and a very long dinner.

Palermo is a large district, and the two visitor-friendly parts are Soho, with boutiques, cafés and nightlife, and Hollywood, quieter and greener around the parks. It is the best base for eating and going out, with a young, creative feel and a wide range of restaurants. It is also spread out, a little self-consciously trendy, and the pavements can be uneven. Book a room away from the main bar streets if you want sleep.

What works

  • The best concentration of restaurants and bars
  • Boutiques and design shops
  • Parks and a walkable street life

What doesn’t

  • Noisy on weekend nights
  • No metro in the heart of Soho
  • Trendy and sometimes crowded

One local move

Do not book dinner before 9pm if you want the real atmosphere; many kitchens only get going then. Walk the parks and side streets during the day rather than the main shopping avenues.

Getting around

The subte D line runs along the edge at Scalabrini Ortiz and Plaza Italia. Much of Soho is best walked; taxis and ride apps are cheap by international standards and useful at night.

Safety

Busy and generally safe, with more noise than danger. Keep phones out of sight in the bar crowds, and take a taxi or app rather than walking far west or south late at night.

Send me the trip. I’ll send back the area.

Dates, budget, who’s travelling and the one thing you don’t want to deal with. I’ll answer with a specific base, not a brochure.
