Where to stay in Argentina

Late nights, beef and a café culture that stays up with you.

Argentina is a country of big distances and strong regional identities, and Buenos Aires is its most obvious first stop. The city runs late: lunch in the afternoon, dinner after nine, and cafés that stay open through the night. The economy and exchange rules change more than in most places, so check the current situation on arrival rather than relying on old advice.

01

Check the currency rules

Exchange rules and prices can change quickly. Confirm whether hotel rates are in pesos or dollars, keep card receipts and use official channels for cash rather than informal street exchanges.

02

Shift dinner later

Many restaurants only fill up after 9pm, and some kitchens stay open past midnight. Eating at 7pm is possible but you will be sitting with other tourists.

03

Use radio taxis or apps

Radio taxis and ride-hailing apps are safer and easier than hailing on the street. At night, take a car even for short distances in unfamiliar areas.

A note from the editor

“I’d rather tell you which area to skip than sell you another list of ‘best hotels’.”

The guides are independent. Booking links may earn a commission; they never change the shortlist.
