April in Athens
Plaka and Syntagma are the classic first base: the Acropolis, the museum and the main squares are walkable, though the streets are touristy. Monastiraki and Psirri are livelier and better value, with rooftop bars, tavernas and the flea market on the doorstep. Koukaki, south of the Acropolis Museum, is calmer and more residential, with the best family rooms and a short walk to the sights.
