April in New York
SoHo is the best-looking downtown base: shopping, food and walking, with the noise and prices to match. Midtown is the most efficient first trip and the least atmospheric. Williamsburg is for food, music and a slightly younger trip. The Upper West Side is the family answer: park, museums, quieter nights and real apartment-sized rooms.
Spring
Spring is one of the two most requested seasons, and hotel rates tend to rise with it. Parks and outdoor cafés fill up as soon as the weather turns, though spring weather can swing between warm and chilly. Book popular weekends well ahead and keep a light layer for the evening.
Spring and autumn are the most requested seasons, and rates and crowds follow: book early if you want a park weekend or the weeks when walking is most comfortable. Summer is hot and humid, with school holidays and heavy tourist traffic, so plan indoor afternoons and walk early or late. Winter brings holiday lights and a busy festive stretch, then some of the quietest weeks of the year in January and February.
